Reflecting On Philadelphia's Super Bowl LIX Victory
"The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions!" That phrase is something that I have not been able to exclaim since 2018 when the Eagles won Super Bowl LII, the franchise's first. It is what I screamed at the top of my lungs back then, and it was what spilled out when I watched my favorite team win it again in 2025.
In 2018, I was a junior in high school. I was beginning to explore career options, and my passion for writing about sports was just beginning to come to fruition; however, I was afraid to put myself out there. It would not be until I was a freshmen in college that I would write and publish my first article. With all that said, it has always bugged me that I never wrote an article about the Eagles winning their first Super Bowl.
Once I launched my own website, I decided that I will write an article each time one of my favorite teams wins a championship; I want my thoughts and emotions logged. Thankfully, it did not take another 52 years for the Eagles to win a Super Bowl. Their Super Bowl LIX victory was a monumental moment in Philadelphia history, and now that the dust has begun to settle, I feel it is appropriate to reflect on the impacts of the victory.
Cultural Impact
The energy in and around Philadelphia when the Eagles are championship contenders is ecstatic. There was an overwhelming amount of joy and kindness in the weeks building up to the big game. Local bars were full of people sharing laughs, Wawas were giving out free coffees, and fans were sporting their Eagles gear everyday. Once the Eagles secured the victory, streets flooded with euphoric fans. The payoff, the parade, gave fans a final chance to share their happiness with one another.
Iconic photographs, viral videos, and original art pieces produced as a result of this championship will be archived in museums and other institutions. The cultural impact of this Super Bowl will last for decades, as future parents will one day share their emotions and memories with their children. Even more importantly, the Eagles are now nationally recognized as an elite, iconic NFL franchise.
NFL Impact
Less than three weeks after the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX, the Green Bay Packers submitted a request to ban the tush push play. Then, the Washington Commanders traded for Deebo Samuel. Whenever a team wins a title, the rest of the league tends to do what they can to either emulate or compete with the champions; however, after dominating the Kansas City Chiefs in front of the entire globe, Philadelphia put the rest of the NFL on notice. With a red target on their backs, the Eagles will have to stay ahead of the pack and prepare extra this offseason.
Historical Impact
In terms of NFL history, the Eagles' 2024 season will stand the test of time as one of football's most memorable. Saquon Barkley proved to be a generational talent by rushing for 2,504 yards in 20 games; future running backs will most likely be chasing that accolade for years. Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell set high expectations for first-year players joining NFL teams. Zack Baun is likely going to reset the linebacker market after making an All-Pro team. Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and Darius Slay all proved many of their doubters wrong.
All in all, the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles were a historically great team. Team success and individual personnel accomplishments were a result of their on-field production. Not only will this team be remembered in Philadelphia sports history, but they will be etched in as one of the greatest teams in football history. Artifacts and players are sure to one day be enshrined in Canton, Ohio at the NFL Hall of Fame.
