Ranking the 76ers' 2024 Offseason Additions

The Philadelphia 76ers have been among the most active teams in the NBA during the 2024 offseason. After a string of seven consecutive playoff exits in the second round or earlier, they felt the best time to retool the roster was now. Philadelphia has brought in seven fresh faces since the 2024 NBA Draft began. The team is hoping that these players can help Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey optimize their winning potential. Only time will tell whether these additions amount to being serviceable; the best the media can do now is analyze and rank these acquisitions based on foresight.

7. Adem Bona

Youth and size are two of the most valuable entities to NBA executives, and Adem Bona offers both of those for the 76ers. He is 6'8", 21-years-old, and a second-round pick. While he may prove to be valuable as a backup center to Joel Embiid in the future, it is likely he will spend most of his first NBA season in Delaware with the Sixers' NBA G League affiliate Blue Coats.

6. Justin Edwards

Similarly to Bona, Justin Edwards is likely to spend a lot of time with the Blue Coats this upcoming season; he is contractually eligible to play for both the Blue Coats and 76ers. This signing offers little risk, but considering the lack of depth the 76ers have at the small forward position, it is possible Edwards could sneak his way into getting some minutes at the NBA level during the regular season.

5. Eric Gordon

Eric Gordon is presumed by many to be a starter for the 76ers for the majority of the 2024-25 season. While he offers veteran leadership and consistent shooting, two entities that have helped many teams win championships, he is also an aging player that cannot provide the athleticism he could earlier in his career. With the 76ers wanting to play a fast-paced offense under Nick Nurse, Gordon may find himself in more of a reserve role by the end of the season.

4. Jared McCain

Jared McCain was the 76ers' first-round selection in the 2024 NBA Draft. Unlike Bona, McCain will likely not split time with the 76ers and the Blue Coats. McCain offers the 76ers above average three-point shooting, which is something the team needs in order to keep pace with their NBA opponents.

3. Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond is a player that previously played for the 76ers, but he spent a few seasons away with different NBA franchises. He is considered by many to be the best backup center to Joel Embiid since Embiid entered the league. While he is a few years older than he was during his first sting with Philadelphia, he only just entered his thirties last August. Both his on-court play and off-the-court passion have been noticeably missed since he left Philadelphia in 2022, and the team will certainly benefit from having both of those back this upcoming season.

2. Paul George

There is no denying that the 76ers are a much better team with Paul George than they are without him. He has not played a single minute with the team yet, but his skillset, track record, and aura make him a bust-free signing. He is the third star that Embiid and Maxey have needed since they became a duo, and only an injury can stop the 76ers' "Big Three" from advancing to, at least, the Eastern Conference Finals.

1. Caleb Martin

Paul George is a better player than Caleb Martin is, but Martin will be the glue that brings the team together in a win-producing manner. He provides the 76ers with things that George does not: depth, speed, and efficient defense. All three of those things are incredibly important to winning playoff series in the NBA. According to 76ers' executive Daryl Morey, “Caleb is a battle-tested performer who has elevated his game when his teams have needed it most.”

Among the players the 76ers brought in this off-season, Martin is most likely have the longest tenure with the team and be the most valuable addition.
